Born in Turkey, but having called Australia home for most of his life, Sercan began studying the violin at age four with Selahattin Yunkus, and by his eighth birthday was the recipient of the first prize at the National Rotary Competition Young Musician of the Year in 1995. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, his teachers have included Alice Waten, Goetz Richter, and Wanda Wilkomirska.
Sercan has won various prizes in local and national competitions in Australia, including recital tours with the Queensland YO and was a featured artist in ENCORE 05 at the Sydney Opera House. He has lived in Dallas since 2009 and received his BMus and PD from SMU under the tutelage of Emanuel Borok. An experienced chamber musician, Sercan is a former violinist of the Altius Quartet. He was a silver medal winner at the 2014 Fischoff Competition, and received first prizes at the Coltman and Plowman competitions. His love of chamber music continues through his performances with the Avant Chamber Ballet and various local and international festivals. Sercan is currently the Associate Concertmaster of the Irving Symphony and 1st violinist in the Plano Symphony Orchestra.
